This place is amazing. Stopped in here on a Saturday evening in late August and it wasn’t too busy. Casey the bartender was whipping up good drinks and good conversation, and playing some good tunes on the TouchTunes juke box. I had intended to only stay for about 30 minutes but ended up staying for 2 hours! This place is a must visit if you like a small town bar with a friendly atmosphere!

Wretched woman wouldn't make eye contact with me refused to serve. Visiting friends for a week was just trying to shoot a game of pool after seeing a show at the theatre. Never happened ever in my life. Nothing on tap or local beer either. Just Lagunitas. I should a walked around bar and grabbed the damn beer myself

What a terrific small-town bar. Bartender made fantastic drinks at small-town prices, with small-town friendliness. A great stop.

I actually only visited Bird Cafe next door due to what looked like some less than finest Point Arena young adult citizens hanging out at Sign of the Whale's front door. But that I was once a Point Arena citizen of similar age - 33 years ago - and could have hung out back then at the exact same bar is proof it is doing something right. Bird Cafe while under new ownership several times since those days (was Sign of the Whale restaurant back when I lived there) was excellent and the bird murals the owner painted on its walls are really a nice touch from a restaurant otherwise physically the same as I remember it. The building, like all of downtown Point Arena is in a historic district built shortly after the 1907 earthquake, replacing way older buildings!
