The Botanist is a downtown treasure…such a charming atmosphere that reminds of restaurants on my travels to Europe. Emily our server was so personable and really made us feel welcome. She recommended the Botanist Loaded Fries and they phenomenal..everything we ate and the seasonal hand crafted cocktails were suburb. Definitely give this place a try you will not be disappointed!

We went in on Sunday afternoon. Atmosphere was very relaxed and enjoyable. Server was friendly. Drinks were fantastic. Definitely fine cocktails as advertised. I recommend you add this place to your stops. We didn’t order food, but the dishes we saw being served looked fantastic and the other customers we’re talking about how good the food was too.

While visiting family in Bakersfield, we discovered a bar in Old Town Bakersfield. Despite its unassuming exterior, the bar was open, though quite dark inside. The venue is small but has an outdoor area.

When we arrived, there were no tables available, so we sat at the bar. Initially, our bartender was excellent at making drinks, but as the night went on, his attention waned, as did that of the other bartenders. At one point, we had to ask a waiter for a drink, who then notified the bartender to assist us.

The service started off great but noticeably declined halfway through the evening. This change in atmosphere was disappointing, especially since our initial experience had been so positive.

What a fun craft cocktail bar! Dark, moody, “modern vintage” vibes. Service was a little delayed, but they were pretty busy.

They have a happy hour from 2-5pm daily (including Saturdays!) and we tried the Loaded Fries (essentially fancy cheeseburger French fries) and had the 9:30 Tea Time cocktail for 2 (delicious!!)

I stopped by The Botanist on a Friday night while visiting Bakersfield—and I was glad I did. The speakeasy-like ambiance and dark, wood-paneled bar help make this a fun place.

The food options are limited, but I enjoyed what I ordered. I started off with a baked Brie, elevated by fresh roasted garlic and an ever-so-light honey sauce, with toasted baguette slices. The fish and chips were perfectly cooked—crispy and warm with a good serving of shoestring fries.

When it comes to cocktails, this place is outstanding. They offer a number of customized drinks and a nice selection of local beer on tap from the Kern River Brewing Company.

The staff is friendly and attentive, and there’s plenty of street parking. If you’re in Bakersfield, this is definitely a worthwhile visit.
