Truly a gem of not only the Alaska Latin Dance Community, but the Latin Dance Community as a whole! The owner, Shelly, has consistently created great classes, socials, teams, festivals, and other events over the past 16 years, always ensuring attendees feel welcome, comfortable, and appreciated.

Coming for the Alaska Salsa Festival from California's Bay Area, where we have a huge community with major events and superstar instructors, I wasn't expecting much. Now I have to say it's one of my absolute favorite places in the entire country to go dancing! They are truly small but mighty.

And in case you're worried that you have 3 left feet and can't ever dance, she, and her staff, are incredibly patient and kind instructors that will get you dancing sooner than you could believe. Check them out!

Review is for the Friday night salsa socials 9pm-1am - Michelle and her team run a great little social out here in Alaska! People are friendly and welcoming to visitors esp since local community is fairly small. Beginners welcome and they toss in a fun dance class at the beginning.

Ratio of songs are 4 bachata: 4 salsa: 2 zouk/kizomba/merengue, with a bias towards whatever dance was taught that night.
Danced mainly as a lead and didn't run out of dances. 🙂

I went to Alaska Dance Promotions because I had a military injury and didn't work out for a while due to the injury which caused me a lot of problems at the time. The doctor said that I could do dancing if I could stand the pain I was in at the time. I heard Alaska Dance Promotions were the best in Alaska. I went and have not stopped till this day. This is my seventh year with them. I wouldn't go anywhere else because of the people, the teachers and the fun I have had throughout the years that also helped me in other areas of life. If you haven't been you need to go and enjoy what I have experienced over the years. They teach Salsa, Bachata, and Kizomba along with other dances. Maybe I might see you there!

I've been a member of Alaska Dance Promotions for over 13 years. This studio holds a special place in my heart. The community feels like family, and the studio a second home. I will never forget what/who inspired me to learn to dance in the first place. I remember going to a local Latin club for the first time with my sister, where I saw the studio owner Michelle dancing Salsa - this was before she opened the studio. I was so in love with her dancing - she was/is just such a beautiful dancer that I knew I wanted to do what she was doing. So, I introduced myself and inquired about lessons. That's when she told me she was going to be opening a studio soon. I took some private lessons, took classes, joined the dance team, and since then have had some of the most incredible experiences and opportunities I have ever had in my life. I grew as dancer, traveled the world to so many dance festivals and continue to do so. Talk about a hobby that will have you learning, staying active, traveling, and developing friendships with a diverse group of amazing human beings. A hobby that has you immersed in art, music, and culture. So many positive things, and an amazing studio and 2nd home to help make that all happen. Michelle and the instructors are all fantastic and professional at what they do - They make learning to dance super fun. If you are looking for a fun one-time experience, or a life-time hobby - this is the place to go. 🙂
