I can't express enough how grateful I am for the officers of the Blackhawk Police Department, specifically Officer Atencio.

While traveling, I had a bag stolen from in front of the Horseshoe hotel valet drive. Officer Atencio, within a day located the most important items, including prescription glasses and coordinated return of most of the missing items. Your department is truly lucky to have an officer and field training officer such as Officer Atencio.

Blackhawk PD came to my house twice threatening issuing a warrant if I didn't contact them within the next day. Showed up the the PD & not one office is here to help or acknowledge. Waiting for an hour now & dispatch says stay put. Lovely service

Well, I had to call Blackhawk PD to admit to accidentally damaging a piece of casino property while entering a parking garage. Officer Whitman was extremely kind and businesslike in processing my ticket. She was really very happy that I spoke with her instead of drawing out the process (giving her more work, and getting me in more trouble). Both officers that I spoke with were just great...hopefully the magistrate in Gilpin County is half as nice as these folks. Thank you to the Blackhawk police for turning an absolute nightmare into something more manageable.

*Pro tip: if something bad happens, just be real with these folks. They'll be real with you.*

Im only giving one star because you have to give a star to make a comment. It was 5/22/18 at 850 pm a police cruiser was following us from dropping off my grandkids for about two miles the whole time hitting his siren. We would pull over and he would pass us then he let us pass him. He kept hitting his siren to get us to pull over and then pass us like a game he was playing. Who does that? This is so scary that black hawk police do this. Why are they aloud to get away with this. I know many people who have complained and there comments disappear from this site. So this one probably will to.

I know from first hand personal experience that the Officers from Blackhawk PD will violate your rights. They do not respect you or your rights and constantly harrass innocent people and illegally profile. "Don't be a black man in Blackhawk!"

A very low class Agency. Highest paid department in the United States and a leap frog Agency. Poorly trained, do not protect and serve the public. Officers are bully's and disrespectful to taxpaying citizens. They are nothing more than a gang with a badge! Nothing is being done about the serious drug problem in the jurisdiction. Citing "not having the budget to do anything about it....". The truth is they don't have officers experienced enough to handle "buy bust" and "buy walk" operations that lead to the real criminals wreaking devastation on the community and proliferating drugs to impressionable youths and our future!
