I came here twice in mid September, once at midday and once just before sunrise. I wanted to get some photographs of the sunrise coming over the mountains to the east. It was nearly 32 degrees at that elevation and the air was very thin. It is an easy drive up to the parking area and it has restrooms there as well. There is a very short path up above the parking area to the highest elevation. The views are awesome, and I was the only person there at that time of day. Its definitely worth pulling in for a short visit if you are driving by.

Our second visit here. Nice drive to have something to do.
Gravel road and very doable in a 2 wheel drive sedan.

This was such a beautiful experience! Once you get to the top it feels like you are on top of the world. Be sure that you pack your jacket though! It was 87 degrees in Pagosa Springs on the day that we went but it was 59 degrees at the very top and there was still plenty of snow as well! The views were breathtaking and totally worth the climb!!!

Driving back to CoSp from Pagosa Springs and we missed the scenic overlook off of 160, I do believe. We saw another scenic overlook that took us up a mountain! Once we got up the 3miles, the air was SO fresh!! The flora was spectacular as was the rest of the view!! The Continental Divide is breathtakingly beautiful! Definitely recommend this stop!!

One of the most intimidating drives I've been on. The results were worth the effort though.

Holy cow were the views amazing, plus if we had time we could of walked along the Continental divide trail. Check it out if you're able.

The trip to the top is worth the view! Breathtaking at the top. Narrow gravel road but minivan could navigate it. Worth the trip- lots of wildlife along the way.

Don't feel like hiking, but still want some great pictures and views? Take a three mile drive up a dirt road to the Lobo Lookout. Or, hike a portion of the Continental Divide just a little ways down the road and come up to Lobo lookout to get a view of what you just accomplished. The lookout is windy, bring a jacket. Pit toilets available. The ladies was cleaned and stocked on our visit; the men's needed a little TLC. Signs indicated a reduced cleaning schedule due to minimal staffing during the current pandemic. We were able to navigate the road in a dually, although it is narrow in a few places requiring courtesy to oncoming drivers. There are several picnic tables near the lookout. Amazing views- you can see for miles.
