moody lounge sitting atop mister jius, serving rotating craft cocktails. great atmosphere and good drinks overall, although some were a miss. would come back with friends or as a date spot if willing to splurge a little.

frost descent: refreshing and light. loved the bitter jasmine tea aroma from the garnish. would get again!

Cocktail menu is quality over quantity with Asian influences. Charming location on top of mister jius. Ambiance is trendy and Asia-inspired. They take reservations and have these red velvet booths. It’s rated on Eater for a reason!

Tipping culture is out of control

Moongate Lounge requires 20% service charge (regardless of party size)

How do they let you know? Tiny black font on a black background in a dimly lit bar that can only be seen if you shine a flashlight and zoom in

This is so shady lol

I typically tip 15-20% anyways. But the audacity to expect / require this has gotten out of control. Our table was still wet when they sat us. Is that the service I’m required to pay for?

They said “all SF restaurants do this”. I live in SF. That’s simply not true. I know a couple that do and it’s clearly communicated ahead of time, which is fine.

If owners / staff want to rely on “gotcha” tactics to make a few extra bucks, they will lose customers (and be violating SB 478, which makes mandatory fees illegal in SF starting in 10 days on July 1)

Came to celebrate my birthday and had a fabulous experience. We sat facing a beautiful window ( photo op) service was precise and the food was delish. Strong drinks, great friends and a sexy atmosphere! I’ll be back!

Mandatory 20% tip and 5% fee in addition to tax and pricey drinks. This is not disclosed on the menu.

Waiter was rude about the fee. It applies to all party sizes.

Oh - and then they also ask you to tip on top of the 20% with no indication that you already tipped.

Vibe is nice but not worth the price.

Love the spicy peanuts and the cocktails. Lots of mocktail options and had low ABV options as well.

Incredibly beautiful serene space with comfy intimate seating, high ceilings and felt extremely spacious. Highly recommend.

Super cute bar located on top of Mr. Jiu’s. Great drinks and ambiance. I really liked the DJ, too! We didn’t have a reservation but were seated promptly, however for a larger group I would recommend booking a table.

A nice and sleek place to enjoy a cocktail or two and enjoy a nice conversation. The interior is nice and seating area are distanced from each other allowing for a private conversation and social distancing. The cocktails were unique and tasty. The Frost's Decent (bourbon, green walnut, honey-sesame foam) had this nice taste from the foam, but you can definitely taste the alcohol in it. The White Dew (rum, pear brandy, pandan, coconut, citrus) was very refreshing. This one can definitely creep on you after a few. Overall, cool place to get a drink or two.
