Ghost camp left from the early days maybe 1970s...These original 1970s concrete tables were painted a little bit. Picnic tables are all together in a group around a super stinky abandoned vault toilet tank filled with stuff you can't imagine. The entire park has this undesirable rotten egg stench. Park is covered in broken glass with a waste heap in the unusable fire pit. Then, there are no restrooms or porta potties. There is 1 old porta potty in an overgrown swamp area far from the park, way up past the campsites and it is disgusting and unusable. Also, couldnt use the individual camp sites as they are fully overgrown having been engulfed by the woods years and ago. completely overgrown. Couldn't find the supposed new trail that supposedly has 4 bridges. There is one bridge that crosses the creek to an overlook trail with no map just a plant-guide sign. We abandoned that idea as it is badly overgrown and washed out, There are no woodchips, shoring, no steps on the extremely steep washed out hill up the mountainside. This trail is absolutely not made like an actual trail, dangerous, extremely rough boulder field, very high difficulty. So, then we lost site of the trail at the woods and headed back after 5 minutes of disappointing non-hike. So, with the grant money, there has really been nothing done here for real. Sad. The drive there was scenic and the best part of our day trip there. However, there is no sign for the abandoned park, and if you drive too far, you end up in on single lane road in a dead end at the flooded creek with nowhere to turn around. Creek was running and beautiful. Too, bad they didn't actually restore the park. It suffers from long-term neglect.

We visited when a local friend of ours took us out for a drive. Being a Flat Lander, I was simply stunned by the beauty of the place, though a little exhausted by hiking the trails. Certainly not steep or too difficult for anyone accustomed to the altitude and hiking, but for an old fart from Florida there was much wheezing. Still, the area is absolutely gorgeous and well worth the drive. It's pretty rustic. Don't look for a lot of amenities. As in, any. There are a few campsites, cement benches, rough trails but that's about it. Perfect for camping and hiking. Like Florida though, you don't want to wander too far off the trail unless you're dressed for it. Be aware of snakes and other wildlife that might not take kindly to unexpected visitors. There are also a lot of small plants that can be crushed by a careless footstep. On second thought, just don't go off the trails. It's probably best for all concerned. But do take lots of pictures. It's a photographers dream place and I'd love to revisit during the Golden Hour to get some better lighting for pictures. Don't hesitate to visit and then visit again.

Like all public areas, it could use a tidying up. Don’t stop here for the public areas, take a hike and eat off the beaten path. Gorgeous doesn’t begin to explain the beauty of this park.

Nice little quaint Campground no power no running water but was awesome nice little Mountain Creek runs right through it water was ice cold off the beaten path when we were there we saw one person great little tent campground or small pop-up you can get in there
