Love this place! I recently organized a high school reunion and MG went above and beyond to help make sure our group had a great time and everything we needed. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I dropped off a box of decorations and they went right to work making it look amazing! Our group had a great time. We will definitely return.

We sat at the bar last night to try this place again. We won’t sit at the bar again. Poor service, basically no one ever checked on us. I had to flag down a guy to get an additional drink. No one even asked about the food and I finally stacked up our dishes and moved them down the bar. The employees were all in a group talking at the end of the bar or I guess watching orders coming in through their system. Overall poor customer service. The food is good but wish they’d figure out the customer service piece. We’re hopeful as it’s a great location and nice atmosphere.

I have been coming here since Shelter opened in May. Unfortunately the quality of food has significantly decreased. The salad I used to order has changed, the portions are smaller, and the food is different every time I come. We usually order the margarita, the first one came with salt and the second one did not. There seems to be a lot of inconsistency with the food and drinks. I am no longer going to be coming back even though the service is usually great.

Ordered a burger, it tasted and smelled off. No kidding, it made me vomit within 10 minutes. While I was in the restroom vomiting, my wife sent the plate back to the kitchen. The kitchen manager smelled the burger and agreed it smelled off. A nice gesture to offer another burger, but no thanks. Additionally, the service was much like the burger, off. Very inattentive and less than pleasant. The wait staff at Denny’s has a better idea of how to serve a guest. Cheers.

I was very happy with my first experience here. The staff was very nice and welcoming. The Poke tuna was amazing. Super fresh and modern dish. We also had the shrimp appetizer which was very good and served over fresh greens. All their juices are fresh squeezed. I will definitely return and bring friends, Will be fun to hang out on the back patio with friends and take in the beautiful views.

I hope this message reaches both Mr. Hammer and Mr. Anderson. The town of Montrose truly appreciates your efforts in listening to our residents and adding hard menus and the option for a server. Well done! The atmosphere and food are top-notch, and the service, when available, is outstanding.

However, there's an issue with insufficient staff. During a club event today, our group arrived at 11:30 AM and finished eating around 2 PM due to a lack of service. The one young lady on duty worked extremely hard to take care of everyone, but it's challenging for one person to manage several tables without any support.

The mid-to-low score we’ve given reflects this staffing issue, not the efforts of the server, who did an exceptional job under difficult circumstances. Please look into why there is limited service and whether staff are moving on to other jobs.

We're glad Shelters is here and look forward to enjoying many more meals with you.

We loved the food & craft beer flight here. Awesome atmosphere inside & outside. Shout out to Fabian who did an amazing job serving our food & drinks and giving us info on the town of Montrose. Bison burgers were made to specifications & were delicious along with side salad & truffle fries. We did not try any of their own distilled liquors but would have if had option to try a flight of cocktails made with them…just a thought as we had this option offered at a distillery in Door County WI.

Just opened and has wonderful potential. The building is beautiful and is in a fantastic location. My husband had the Bison Onion Smashburger ($18) and Truffle Fries ($3) which were both very good. We attempted to eat the Yellow Fin Ahi Tostada ($17.50). Although not described as spicy on the menu, the majority of the tuna was soaked in chili crisp oil and then dusted in ground cayenne pepper (see photo). The staff was polite albeit a bit nervous as they spilled drinks on both myself and my husband. The beverages were inconsistent. The Strawberry Lemonade ($6) I ordered off the mock-tail menu was sickly sweet, served in a highball glass and the Spicy Margarita ($13) was meh. The gem of the craft cocktails was the HoneyDUDE ($13). Overall, we are excited about the potential of Shelter Distilling. We will be back and look forward to trying it again in the future.

Update: We returned on Memorial Day. My husband had the Joe Burger and I had the Philly Cheesesteak. Both were good. Food and drink delivery were efficient. As during our previous trip, we had trouble getting a to go box despite flagging front staff and requesting it. After 15 mins I just walked out with my leftovers in a napkin. Overall wonderful atmosphere and good selection of food and beverages.
